A Theatre Trip To Rome

K2 Snowboards Company History

The story of K2 Snowboards begins with Bill Kirschner, who designed a new kind of fibreglass ski in 1961. A few years later the new product came to the market and was an instant success. In 1967, Kirschner named his new company K2 after the world’s second highest mountain.

It was not until 1988, however, that the company turned its attention to a new sport that was slowly taking over the slopes. At that point, only small startup companies were involved in snowboarding. It seemed that all the big ski makers were apprehensive about taking a chance on the new sport. But K2 jumped at the opportunity and quickly became one of the largest manufacturers of snowboards in North America.

Modern Theatre and Culture

European theatre evolved from ancient Greek and roman theatre. In medieval times, theatre in Europe consisted of court performances. Themes usually included re-scripted legends. As religion pervaded the continent, themes reflected religious sentiments, but this also gave rise to a more vernacular community theatre.

Today, modern theatre in Europe is influenced by various political and social philosophies. Themes are varied. Experimental and sometimes controversial theatre that challenges the political and social status quo still remains on the fringes and mainstream theatre reflects politically correct themes, just as is the case with cinema.

All of Europe has a rich history and tradition of theatre. A friend of mine recently went on a trip across Europe, and explored theatre in different countries. She wanted to Learn Spanish in Spain and study Spanish theatre, which she did. (more...)

Types of Theatre

Theatre has many forms and branches. It also has a rich history, as theatre has evolved in some form or other in all cultures and communities. The point of theatre is to convey meaning to its viewer. Any kind of performance can be considered as theatre, but since there are different forms of performances, theatre typically refers to actors performing a drama on stage.

Although theatre is a term that is used to describe various community art forms in different cultures, we will consider the western form of theatre. Theatre has evolved and various masters have established their own form of storytelling and theatre as well.

It is common knowledge that theatre played an important role in ancient Greek culture. You would not see a character wearing skate shoes in any of these! Unless the play was a modern rehashed version of a Greek play! (more...)

Is an Acting Life for You?

How do you know if a career in the theatre is for you? Many people consider this illustrious career at least fleetingly, as we are attracted to the glamour of life as an actor. Others look towards the broader careers in the entertainment or speaking industry, such as comperes, voiceover artists or keynote speakers .

There are various ways into the theatre, such as stage school or university, although some people are lucky enough to break into it without formal training.

Theatre is one of the most misunderstood pastimes of our society. They used to be very popular in the 20th century but we have noticed a recent decline in their profitability. Going to see a movie is entirely different than theatre and people often get the two mixed up.

It is much cheaper to go see a movie than it is to sit through a theatre play. The reality is that theatre is much more entertaining than sitting through horrible movies that Hollywood produces today.

Most people usually are looking at their tv guide trying to watch something on a Friday night instead of catching a theatre play at their local theatre. The foundations of modern theatre in Rome

While the notion of theatre and housing originated in ancient Greece, Romans set the foundations of modern theatres and of quality residential constructions. The area with seats would not be only semicircular, but circular, obtaining thus "amphiteatres" like the Colosseum. There was great interest, even emperor Nero was an actor. The quality of the construction was unrivalled and has been a reference ever since.

In Rome also modern apartment buildings were first invented. By the law no more than 6 floors could be built, with top quality fittings, like glass windows. Both in ancient and modern Rome trusted apartments were well prepared and managed.

The theatrical culture also influenced architecture. Rome's baroque fountains are designed after theatrical stages, the most famous are the Trevi and the Paoline fountains. Even the facade of churches are theatrical, for ex. the Oratory of the St. Philip Neri of architect Francesco Borromini. Naturally also palaces and apartments display highly ornamental decorations, and in turn also the interior of Italian theatres is influenced by the layout of apartment buildings. For ex. the higher area of the spectators is called "la loggia", because their sitting layout resembles that of a house, were you can "lodge".
