K2 Snowboards Company History

The story of K2 Snowboards begins with Bill Kirschner, who designed a new kind of fibreglass ski in 1961. A few years later the new product came to the market and was an instant success. In 1967, Kirschner named his new company K2 after the world’s second highest mountain.

It was not until 1988, however, that the company turned its attention to a new sport that was slowly taking over the slopes. At that point, only small startup companies were involved in snowboarding.
